Wilmington Friends Meeting
Quakers are Friends

VISION STATEMENT

Wilmington Friends Meeting seeks to be a community of faith that nurtures the living light of Christ in its members and welcomes others who desire a personal relationship with Christ.

The Meeting seeks to strengthen the faith of individuals and encourages a close fellowship among them. Members are encouraged to “let their lives speak”.

The fruit of the spirit of the Meeting includes social action through care of the elderly, the poor, and the disadvantaged.

We seek to promote peace on a personal, community, national, and world level.

We seek to have Christ speak through us, out of the silence, to transform lives and the world in a distinctive way for the glory of God.

A word about Wilmington Friends Meeting

Friends came to Clinton County, Ohio in the early 1800's. The Wilmington Meeting was established in 1868. The present building was dedicated in 1896.

Members of our meeting were actively involved in founding the umbrella group, Friends United Meeting (FUM), a cooperative of regional Yearly Meetings.

Our church family is a diverse group of individuals of all ages, who support and nourish one another through prayer and fellowship. Our members are active in our local, national and international communities.

We encourage persons in harmony with us to consider joining the Society of Friends if they are searching for a religious home. The Meeting welcomes all who desire to participate in our worship.

WHAT TO EXPECT AT WILMINGTON FRIENDS

  • A Warm Welcome - We are delighted to have visitors among us.
  • A Simple and Meaningful Worship - We are light on ritual.  We blend the singing of hymns, prayer and preaching in a way that combines good order and flexibility to make room for God to be present as our Leader.
  • A Time of Silence - This is a traditional emphasis among Friends.  Each Sunday, 5 - 10 minutes of the service is set aside for a quiet waiting on God to speak to the inner being of each worshipper.  During this time, worshippers may remain in silent meditation or may share a vocal prayer or message as they feel led by God.
  • A Sermon - Our pastor shares a thoughtfully prepared message to encourage and aid in spiritual growth.
  • A Nursery - This is for babies and pre-schoolers.
  • Friends - We try to be open to one another and to visitors.  We work at the job of being a caring community of believers.
